Building a Custom Home
Mark Lally has been building homes in and around the Moore County area of North Carolina since 2004. Mark has built his business around offering his clients the quality every homeowner should expect to receive. He designs and delivers homes that stand up to the test of time at a value that is seldom offered by other custom home builders in the area.
The Custom Home Design Process
The custom home process should be fun and exciting. You don’t have to settle for someone else’s idea of what the perfect house should be and you shouldn’t have to overpay for your dream home. I will gladly drive out to examine your property and evaluate the grade, size and dimensions so that I can answer your questions in order to properly advise you as to the best use of your lot to fit your lifestyle.
Looking through home plan books and magazines, as well as real-estate listings is a great way to give me the ideas of what you are looking for in your custom home. Even a crude hand drawing is a good way to send me in the right direction for designing your dream home. I use Chief Architect Premier, a sophisticated CAD program to draw your preferred floor-plan.
Although I do like to have an idea of the type of exterior profile that you are looking for, I have realized that designing your house from the inside out is by far the best way to design a house. Have you ever toured a house with a beautiful exterior, only to find the interior to be a hodgepodge of rooms and hallways? I can guide you in the right direction to keep that from happening by designing several exterior looks to fit the exact same interior layout.

Communication is Key
Communication is the KEY to a fun and exciting design and building process, and that is where Lally Construction & Design excels. I believe in extensive communication to get us to where we both want to be. We can work together through face to face contact, phone calls, texts and emails or whatever form is most comfortable for you. If you live out of town or out of state, we can still communicate effectively to move the process along.
Transparency
I will provide my client with a detailed line by line breakdown of all the expenses that will go into your new custom home showing that there are no hidden items or processes. The last line of these descriptions will cover my gross profit and overhead. Very few custom home builders give this number.
We Build Outstanding Value Into All of Our Custom Homes
We offer superior quality new construction at prices that most other custom builders in the area are not willing to consider. We can do this for two simple reasons: very efficient time management and profit margins that are lower than many custom building firms.
Some people believe that a lower price often equates to lower quality. Nothing could be further from the truth in our case.
Construction Methods
Our construction methods are second to none. We start the very process with precision. Our rebar reinforced footers are plotted with a laser ranging device, giving precision unobtainable by older methods. These precision measurements allow our masons to construct perfectly dimensioned foundations; this is the key to building a properly dimensioned house.
Our hand built flooring systems are constructed from professionally engineered wooden I joists, also known as TJI or the silent floor system. These wood I-beams are a little more expensive than standard 2×10 stick built floors, but the payoff is well worth the expense. We then use adhesive and screws to attach 3/4″ Advantech T&G flooring to the engineered flooring system. This combination produces the stiffest, most squeak-free floors available.
We use premium lumber and other material throughout your new home; products like windows that are energy star rated, Tyvec or Typar brand house wrap, not the less than 1/3 the price knock-offs that allow water vapor to move in both directions. We caulk the top and bottom plates, apply expanding foam around all exterior windows and doors, all exterior wall penetrations as well as behind all outlet and switch boxes adjacent to exterior walls, and above code insulation in the ceilings, along with radiant barrier roof sheeting.
Proper building practices like these make a big difference every month when you receive your electric bill.
Tight building practices are followed throughout the entire building process to guarantee an energy efficient and waterproof building envelope. Our attention to these details pays huge dividends during home ownership.
